Warning Message - "New cloud service dependency for data residency compliance" - What does this mean?

You may have seen the warning message "Power Platform will start relying on a new cloud service dependency for data residency compliance" in the Maker Portal or Power Apps Studio. What exactly does this mean?

Within the past month, warning messages have appeared in Power Apps Studio with the following message, as illustrated in the screenshot beneath.
Power Platform will start relying on a new cloud service dependency for data residency compliance, evaluate adding/updating URLs to your firewall rules.
When exactly does this mean, and do we need to take any action?

Power Apps relies on a host of backend services which are documented in the following link:

In the corporate world, it's not uncommon for organisations to strictly manage access to online resources or the Internet. These organisations will whitelist the IP ranges/web URLs of the essential services that are documented through the above link.

The upcoming change is that the Power Platform will start to use a service for data storage. For organisations with firewall rules in place, they will need to amend their rules to include the new service endpoints.

Therefore, if you're a typical Power Apps end user, there's generally no action that you need to take. However if you're a system administrator and you've implemented firewall rules, it's important that you review the documentation to ensure that your firewall exception rules are up to date.
