Key Takeaways from the 2025 Power Platform Keynote

Today, I had the joy of attending the Power Platform Conference 2025 keynote featuring Charles Lamanna. This was a great session that focused on the evolution of the Power Platform, the changing role of makers, and the disruptive impact of AI.

The start of the session declared "Low code is dead" (as we know it) - a statement about how radically things are changing and moving towards an AI driven, natural language based platform.

From a Power Apps perspective, a highlight of the keynote was Ryan Cunningham's demo. This demonstrated the improvements and the use of Plan Designer to build an app, complete with logic and data connections. In particular, it focused on the new 'Code Agent'.

In this demo, an initial prompt was entered. The Requirements Agent analysed the business problem and identified users and their roles. Once the core requirements were established, it passed the task to the Data Agent. This generated the necessary Dataverse schema and data models to back the application. Next, it passed the task to the Code Agent. This agent acts like a fully-fledged developer on the team, with access to its own computer that can write complex APIs and application code on the fly. Developers and makers can inspect the generated code if they wish, ensuring transparency and full control.

Makers can continue interacting with the agents to refine the user interface, change logic, or adjust data structures without ever leaving the Plan Designer. This agent-driven approach moves well beyond the traditional process of app development, improving quality, speed, and the architectural structure of created systems.

Another great announcement was App Builder. This enables the creation of apps in Office 365 Co-pilot, that are backed by SharePoint, and designed exclusively using natural language.

Other highlights included the announcement of a new logo for Copilot Studio, as well as improved agent testing tools.  There was also a guest appearance from the Alpine F1 team and the announcement of an agent hackathon aiming for a Guinness World Record.

The keynote was a great session that highlighed the design paradigm and roadmap for Power Platform - a rapid, collaborative, and deeply AI app-building experience.
