Designer Warning - New cloud service dependency Power Platform API - What does this mean?
May 30. 2025
Within the past month, warning messages have appeared in Power Apps
Studio with the following message, as illustrated in the screenshot
beneath.
Power Platform will start relying on a new cloud service dependency called Power Platform API, evaluate adding the service to your Conditional Access policies, and updated URLs to your firewall rules.
When exactly does this mean, and do we need to take any action?

What Changed?
The Power Platform will start to rely on a new
RESTful web API known as the Power Platform API. This API enables access
to Power Platform services and resources, and provides a unified endpoint
for platform operations, integrations, and management tasks
If your organisation has applied security policies or network restrictions, an administrator may need to update them to allow include the API enpoints.
If you're a typical Power Apps user, there's generally no action required. However, if you're a system administrator and you've configured Conditional Access policies or firewall rules, it's important to ensure your configurations are current.
What would an IT Admin need to do?
If you're an IT admin, there are two key things to check.
The first is 'Conditional Access Policies'. These are policies in Microsoft Entra ID that can control access based on user, device, location, and other signals. For example, administrators can require users to use multifactor authentication if they want to access a Power Apps canvas app that tracks a compliance process.
To ensure uninterrupted access, these are the key things to do:
- Add Power Platform API as a cloud app in your Conditional Access policies.
- Navigate to Microsoft Entra ID > Security > Conditional Access > Policies in the Azure portal.
- When editing or creating a policy, under Cloud apps or actions, make sure to include the 'Power Platform API'
The full guidance for Conditional Access Policies in Power Platform can be found here.
The second key thing to do is to review firewall rules, and to ensure that the following endpoints are allowed - *.api.powerplatform.com.
The full list of enpoints can be found in the following Power Platform documentation.

Conclusion
For most Power Apps users, no action is needed. However, IT administrators should review and update their Conditional Access policies and firewall rules to include the new Power Platform API. This ensures continued access and functionality as Microsoft rolls out this new dependency
